Mariam Dembele is an organizer, writer, and visual journalist based in Philadelphia. Her work focuses on culture and social justice, with an emphasis on community-based solutions. Most recently, Mariam served as the Communications Coordinator at Movement Alliance Project. There she led the Philly We Rise program, a platform that connects people with social justice organizations, spreads awareness about local issues, and documents the fight for liberation in Philadelphia. Mariam is also an inaugural member of cinéSPEAK’s Editorial Collective. At cinéSPEAK, she supports their newly-launched journal focused on the intersection of the moving image and social change. Mariam holds a B.A. in Journalism from Temple University. When she’s not writing or taking photos you can find her plotting her next trip abroad.
