Being a critic isn’t just a matter of analyzing film; it’s about wielding power—the power to shape discourse, elevate voices, and influence perceptions. As gatekeepers of cultural commentary, it’s crucial that the community of critics reflects the diverse perspectives of the society consuming the work under scrutiny. By centering Black, Brown and Indigenous voices in criticism, we not only enrich our understanding of cinema but also ensure that marginalized creators receive the recognition and respect they deserve. On this panel, participants will discuss a myriad of topics including making space for long-form criticism and the filmmaker as a critic.
