Director

Welket Bungué was born in 1988 in Guinea-Bissau and lives in Berlin. He is co-founder of the production company KUSSA, has a degree in Theater in the field of Actors (ESTC/Lisbon) and a postgraduate degree in Performance (UniRio/RJ). In 2021, he became a member of the European Film Academy. His films have been circulated internationally at numerous film festivals such as Berlinale, ABFF (USA) and Africlap (France). In 2020, Welket is the protagonist of ‘Berlin Alexanderplatz’ (Berlinale 2020), directed by Burhan Qurbani, in which his performance earned him a nomination as “Best Leading Actor” at the LOLA awards of the German Academy of Cinema (Deutscher Filmpreis), and also the “Aluminum Horse” award for “Best Actor” at the Stockholm International Film Festival.
