Bloomed in the Water portrays a Korean immigrant single mother who misinterprets school picture day, resulting in surprise when her son’s appearance differs from his classmates’. With her sisters by her side, Min navigates the aftermath, exploring themes of making mistakes and self-acceptance.

Joanne Mony Park
Director
Joanne Mony Park is a Korean-American writer/ director from Los Angeles. Mony’s work explores the connection between hyphenated-American experiences and queer narratives, capturing the essence of the in-between with a touch of levity. Her films have screened at Slamdance Film Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Frameline, Inside Out, Newfest, Outfest Fusion, and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival where she won best director for her first feature film, Fish Bones. She has participated in programs such as the AFI Directing Workshop for Women+, Torino Film Lab, and Soo Hugh’s Thousand Miles Project. Mony is currently developing her upcoming feature film with the support of the CJ + TIFF K-Story Mentorship Program. She earned an MFA in Directing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and a BFA from the University of California, San Diego.
