In war-torn Syria, a 23-year-old fine arts student fights for her life to witness her graduation day after she is severely injured by a missile that hits her house in Damascus only four days before her graduation date.

Ashtar’s indomitable spirit amid the chaos ignites a journey of survival and hope. As she navigates the challenges of her new reality, she finds solace in her studies, drawing strength from the dreams she refuses to relinquish. Kano 4 is a testament to the enduring hope that we all have the superpower to heal, even in the face of unimaginable adversity.

Director

A Syrian Animator and Motion Designer, based in Barcelona, Spain. In 2015, Ashtar graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, at Damascus University majoring in Visual Communications. Due to being severely injured 4 days before her graduation date, her graduation ceremony was held in her hospital room. Ashtar started her journey in the animation world in 2012 when she trained as an intern at Dream Catcher Studio in Damascus. Shortly after, she joined the animators’ team at the studio and worked on remarkable projects like Danyah Cartoon for MBC3. In 2017, Ashtar left Syria to work as a Motion Designer in Moscow, Russia. She also joined the HitRecord curators’ team and worked on incredible community projects for Zappos and Netflix with amazing collaborations with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Jesica Alba. In 2022, Ashtar moved to Barcelona, Spain to continue her higher education specializing in Motion Design at Idep Barcelona where she made her dream of graduating one more time on her feet and outside of her hospital bed come true. Her first official Animated short Kano 4 was her graduation project where she chose to tell her personal story of surviving the missile that hit her house in 2015 and her journey of coming back to life and learning how to walk again.
