BlackStar Film Festival is an annual celebration of the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and of global communities of color, showcasing films by Black, Brown and Indigenous people from around the world.
BlackStar is seeking three HOUSE MANAGERS for festival events held at The Kimmel Center, Suzanne Roberts Theatre, and The Wilma. The House Managers will report to the Operations Director.
Responsibilities Include:
- Manages the daily event flow for the assigned venue.
- Serves as primary liaison between venue staff and festival staff and volunteers during the festival.
- Manages logistical components for screenings, including floor plans, audience and queuing management.
- Ensures that volunteers are in position and ready to perform their tasks during screenings.
- Greets, escorts, and prepares filmmakers and panelists for their screenings, Q&As, and panels.
- Orchestrates welcome remarks, filmmaker and moderator introductions, post-screening in-person Q&As (handling mics, clearing theater).
- Troubleshoots technical issues in collaboration with the venue and BlackStar tech staff.
- Takes the lead on rapid problem-solving as issues arise.
- Maintains a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional attitude to promote a positive festival experience.
- Attends daily morning all-staff meetings during the festival.

Compensation & Schedule:
Compensation is $3,050 for administrative duties, meetings, and festival work. This is a contracted position working July 9, 2025 to August 5, 2025, with some evenings and weekends required. Candidates are expected to attend the festival in-person from July 31 – August 3, 2025. The individuals in this role are expected to work approximately 3 hours per week before the festival, 60 hours total during the festival, and 1 hour total after the festival for a virtual debrief meeting. Preference for Philadelphia-area candidates.
