Wellness Coach

BlackStar Film Festival is an annual celebration of the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and of global communities of color, showcasing films by Black, Brown and Indigenous people from around the world.

BlackStar is seeking a WELLNESS COACH to plan and hold space in support of the wellbeing of participants of the 2025 BlackStar Film Festival.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide a calm, supportive environment for attendees to process emotions triggered by film content.
  • Be available as a resource for attendees needing support after engaging with triggering or emotionally difficult films.
  • Guide grounding exercises to help attendees regulate their nervous systems during or after intense emotional responses.
  • Collaborate with Programs team to identify and mitigate potential sources of stress, sensory overload, or emotional strain.
  • Manage designated wellness areas while it is in use for wellness programming.
  • Maintain a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional attitude to promote a positive festival experience.

 

Skills Required:

  • Training in trauma-informed care to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment for sharing.
  • Expertise in leading activities such as yoga, mindfulness, or breathwork.
  • Strong active listening and empathy skills to support individuals processing intense emotional responses.
  • Familiarity with grounding techniques to help individuals experiencing distress or overwhelm.
  • Sensitivity to intersectional identities and the ability to hold space for varied lived experiences.
  • Ability to manage group dynamics to ensure equitable participation and psychological safety.

 

Compensation & Schedule:

Compensation is $1,000 for services rendered. Candidates are expected to attend the festival in-person for select hours from July 31 – August 3, 2025, as well as an in-person, all-staff orientation that will be scheduled for one evening in July, and a 1-hour virtual debrief meeting that will take place during business hours in September. The final in-person schedule will be confirmed by the end of April. Preference for Philadelphia-area candidates.
